Tenant Creek Falls III
Completed a four day trek in the Adirondacks. Published a review and image gallery of Wilcox Lake Trail, East Stony Creek Trail, and Tenant Creek Falls Trail. I traveled about 28 miles round trip.
I reviewed Wilcox Lake including both trails, and reviewed Tenant Creek Falls separately . I wrapped the whole trek into one image gallery .
I was stuck in a holding pattern for a week waiting for a good string of weather. Unfortunately, my best chance contained intermittent downpours. However, I was able to photograph all the remarkable features of my journey.
I hiked both approaches to Wilcox Lake , Adirondack Park, NY. From the parking area near Willis Lake, the Wilcox Lake Trail is 6.3 miles. I found it presented more obstacles, was more overgrown, and muddier than the East Stony Creek Trail.
At 5.2mi from the parking area, the East Stony Creek Trail is shorter by 1.1 miles. It provides a nice view of Stony Creek to the west. At the trailhead, there is another worthwhile hike, Tenant Creek Falls (2.1mi to third falls). Overall, The East Stony Creek Trail is the preferable route. The Wilcox Lake Trail is more in the nature of a puzzle and a challenge.
I squeezed in a trip to the Tenant Creek Falls Trail , which passes three waterfalls. This is one of my favorite swimming areas in the Adirondacks. It reminds me a lot of Maui, Hawaii.
Although I spent half the hike absolutely soaked, and the other half trying to get dry, I enjoyed this span of wilderness.
