Street scene, St. Giles the year before the flood. Street scene, St. Giles the year before the flood.

While some figuratively drown in beer, others have literally drowned in beer. The London Beer Flood occurred on October 17, 1814, when a series of beer vats ruptured in the parish of St. Giles, London, England.
