This gallery covers the first day of my traverse on the Tongue Mountain Range, Lake George, NY. The range is bounded by Northwest Bay on the west, and the island speckled narrows of Lake George on the east.

For the corresponding audio log for this day, go here

The range itself is quite dry, so I backtrack from Fifth Peak to a brook along the Five Mile Pt. Trail. From here, I will pursue the range, and all spur trails therein.

Although this is eastern timber rattlesnake territory, I encounter none. Perhaps they are too rare, or it’s too late in the season.

  1. The southwest parking for Tongue Mt. Range is along 9N, just past the guideboard for the trail, if coming from the south. You'll encounter a small pond with parking spaces in front, and another parking area immediately after.
