Buck Mountain is located in Lake George, NY; part of the eastern Adirondacks. This gallery covers the southern approach to the summit.

Starting from the Pilot Knob trailhead near the eastern shore of Lake George, the 3.3 mile hike has a 2000ft ascent. This is a nice day hike, with wide, generally easy elevation gain, and a little scrambling near the summit. There is an excellent view of Lake George at the summit.

  6. The southern approach to Buck Mountain is generally wide and pleasant with rocky portions.

  7. Lake George can be seen to the west as the treeline clears. This particular day was brooding, with severe thunderstorms passing north of us.

  9. Rock cairns typically mark hiking trails along rocky outcroppings, where trees are less frequent. Lines of spray paint assist hikers as well

  10. Approaching the summit of Buck Mountain, the trail becomes a little tricky to navigate, with slippery sections when wet, and meandering detours.
