I wrote an article outlining how long it took for birds to visit the feeder, as well as what species of birds I’ve observed.
So far, I’ve observed six species of birds, as well as some persistent squirrels.
Set up a bird feeder and fountain to attract birds. Have had it for over a month now. In the following article, I review the cost of setup and materials for my feeding station.
So far, I’ve counted six species of birds that have visited my station, averaging a new bird type every week. I used Cornell’s web based bird guide, to make positive identifications.
In the Adirondacks, I sometimes come across remnants of dwellings, far from any road or community. This particular photograph was from a hike on Indian Pass Trail in October 2009. I found what looked like barrel rings in a birch tree.
Upon further investigation, I found rusted metal basins, and a cast iron piece with the word ‘Hibachi,’ on it. I suspect this area was used as a primitive kitchen, or perhaps it was the only remnant of a shack of sorts. Unfortunately, the weather turned before I could do any further investigation.
This muesli recipe will blow away any muesli you’ve tried before. The key to this recipe is baking the muesli with honey and peanut oil (or safflower oil). This releases a hearty toasty flavor and crunch in the oats. It helps the flavors mingle and harmonize.
I eat it in the morning with soy milk or yogurt and frozen fruits. I snack on it throughout the day alone. It is the best snack food in the wilderness, and bears will love the taste of you if you roll in it.
Completed a hike to Shelving Rock Falls in Lake George, NY. I posted a trail review and an image gallery. Although I got some awesome pictures, I was disappointed by the heavy traffic to the falls. A lot of boaters were hiking the short distance from Shelving Rock Bay to the falls.
Had a terrible dream, made an excellent short story. Had to write it down.
I filled in the names of people and places, but the shape of the story is the same as my dream. Fair warning: there are some graphic portions in the story. I call it Russian Lullaby
I have a habit of wandering the streets of Saratoga Springs when I can’t sleep at night. In the following gallery, I play with light, shadow, and lack of rest.
Juicy, crisp, and fresh watermelon becomes exceptionally sweet and candylike when dehydrated. The concentrated flavor and condensed size of dehydrated watermelon makes it ideal for snacking, or as a unique supplement to trail mixes and cereals. In the following article, I outline the steps to dehydrate watermelon.

Caught my tiger cat sleeping on a tree stump, limbs jerking as if running in dream. Managed to snap a few pictures before camera shutter woke her.
